A compressor built around one question: how small does it need to be?
Most compressors ask you to guess a quality number. CompressJPEG flips it around — you state the file size you need, and it searches for the highest quality that fits.
What it does
CompressJPEG shrinks JPEG photos to a size you choose — 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 200KB, or any custom limit. Pick Smart for a curated quality preset, set Quality yourself, or use Target Size and let the tool bisect quality (up to 8 encodes) for the best look that stays within your limit. Up to 20 images at a time, each up to 30 MB.
Why local-first
Every image is processed in your browser with WebAssembly codecs — your photos never travel to a server, because there is no server that receives them. No accounts, no uploads, no watermarks. That architecture isn’t a feature bolted on later; it’s the reason the tool can be free and private at the same time.
Honest limits
JPEG compression is lossy, and tiny targets demand visible tradeoffs — we say so on every page rather than promising “no quality loss.” Target sizes are treated as maximums, results are shown side-by-side before you download, and if a limit can’t be reached cleanly the tool tells you instead of silently ruining the photo.
